A Disney World representative confirmed the performer was injured during the December 30 performance.
“We’re focused on supporting our cast member who is recovering. Safety is at the heart of what we do, and that element of the show will be modified as our safety team completes a review of what happened,” the spokesperson said to People in a statement.
During the sequence, inspired by the classic film, Indy is chased down by a boulder across a track. Unfortunately, the boulder somehow rolled out of place and towards the audience, as a cast member jumped in to stop it from reaching the crowd.
The ball hit him, and he was bounced backwards and landed on his back, as cast members rushed to help him. He also had a bloody wound on his head. Click here to see the footage of the incident.
An eyewitness said to People that despite the injury, he “came out and waved, and everyone gave him a standing ovation.”
“This heroic Cast Member is our dear friend Robert. He received 6 stitches but is recovering in the hospital. He’s a former stunt man and his quick thinking saved many,” a person claiming to be a friend of the worker said on X.
The shocking event comes just after multiple deaths in the parks.
