It all started when an old face from Bernie Winter’s (Jane Hazlegrove) past turned up on the Cobbles, her long lost aunt Celeste – her mother’s identical twin – who was dying of breast cancer. However, Bernie had no interest in reconnecting due to decades old family drama that had severely impacted her mother. She stayed away, and advised her daughter Gemma Winter-Brown (Dolly-Rose Campbell) to do the same. Unfortunately, Gemma never was very good at following instructions, and defied her mum’s orders to go no-contact… which is about to have life-changing consequences for her brother Kit Green’s (Jacob Roberts). Kit’s got quite enough drama on his plate already. He already tried and failed help his girlfriend Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) get away with murdering Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) by tampering with evidence, only to discover that her partner in crime on that fateful night was her ex-boyfriend Gary Windass (Mikey North). Needless to say, once Sarah was arrested and sent down, her relationship with Kit soon broke down and the couple parted ways. Kit’s relationship with Sarah didn’t work out, for obvious reasons (Picture: ITV) To make matters worse, Kit recently considered putting his job as a police officer in jeopardy when Sarah’s serious scary new ‘prison buddy’ Kacey (Emma Matthews) wanted him to use his position to get her son off an armed robbery charge. And if that wasn’t bad enough, Weatherfield’s resident bunny-boiling Single White Female Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances-Brown) is starting to make eyes at him. What is a boy to do? So the very last thing Kit needs to hear is more bad news. In this Coronation Street spoiler video, Gemma gets Kit alone in Roy’s Rolls to break the news that their estranged aunt has died of breast cancer. But the worst is yet to come. Gemma reveals that she learned from her visit that breast cancer runs in their family. Because they are genetically predisposed to the disease, Gemma fears that she might get cancer too, or the girls might get it. With other things on his mind, Kit simply tells Gemma that he has to go and heads out of the cafe, leaving his sister deeply worried. It never occurred to him at the moment that the news that his family are genetically predisposed to breast cancer might effect him too. But that’s where the story is going, as recently revealed by Coronation Street in a press release on Friday announcing that Kit will suffer a major health scare. (Picture; ITV) Actor Jacob Roberts recently spoke about the importance of telling this story with a male character and spreading awareness that men can get breast cancer too. ‘I genuinely didn’t know that men could get breast cancer.’ Jacob admitted. And I felt to make it authentic that Kit shouldn’t know men can get breast cancer. ‘ ‘Speaking to the charities, which have been really insightful, people didn’t know that men didn’t know they could get it.’ ‘I wanted to explore that utter disbelief of like, ‘how can this be?’ Not only for his age, but how can he have this? ‘How have I got this? How have I just been delivered this news?’
