More chaos! (Picture: ITV) For ITV soaps Coronation Street and Emmerdale, there’s been almost as much chaos off screen as there has been on this summer, with the World Cup causing schedule chaos left, right and centre. Double episodes, missing episodes, episodes on Sundays – it’s been a bumpy ride for those looking to get their daily dose of soapy goodness, but luckily, we’ve had your back with frequent schedule updates. While we’d all presumed that with the World Cup finally over, things would settle back into the usual pattern, the football affliction isn’t quite over yet, with the English Football League Cup due to cause further disruption to the schedules – though, thankfully, not to the extent of July’s tournament. Next Friday, August 7, there’ll be no Coronation Street or Emmerdale, as they’re both bumped from the channel line up to make way for EFL Cup coverage, with Middlesbrough vs Wrexham taking their place. But fear not, the missing episodes will air on Sunday, August 9 instead. Unfortunately, that’s not the last of it, as the following week, on Wednesday, August 12, there’ll be no Coronation Street or Emmerdale again, as Manchester United go against Leeds United in a pre-season friendly match. As we approach September, things will likely settle in the absence of a massive football tournament that messes with our daily visits to Weatherfield and the Yorkshire Dales… well, until Christmas, anyway, when things will go haywire all over again! For now, if you’re wondering what to expect next week, read on… What’s happening in Coronation Street next week? We’re due to bid goodbye to Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) next week, as her attempts to expose Ross Wilkes’ (Ian Burfield) true – and rather grim – colours have failed repeatedly. What’s going down in Weatherfield? (Picture: ITV/Metro/Shutterstock) Cassie is on her way out – but how? (Picture: Danielle Baguley/ITV) On the outs with her boyfriend Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) and her exasperated son Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) having kicked her out of their family home, she decides to head for pastures new and takes a job cleaning on a cruise ship. As she readies herself to leave Weatherfield, though, she’s beckoned into Ross’ car, and as he locks the doors and speeds away, will she meet a more permanent exit? Elsewhere, the real reason behind Sienna Milburn’s (Charlotte Tyree) cagey behaviour when it comes to her fledgling relationship with Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey) becomes apparent this week, when her dementia-suffering mum, Sadie (Elizabeth Rider), arrives on the cobbles in a confused and disorientated state. While Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) and Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan) are hit hard by a glimpse into the future, Asha determines to help Sienna in any way she can, but will Sienna let her? The Dingles face further agony next week when they learn that Monty the dog’s tumour has likely spread, and Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) realises that the end has arrived for the family’s beloved pet. What’s going down in the Dales? (Picture: ITV) Monty becomes even more unwell (Picture: ITV) With their lives and cancer journeys completely entwined at this point, though, can Cain let Monty go? Elsewhere in Dingleland, Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) summons all the courage she can muster and returns to the sexual assault survivors support group, where she’s hit with a stark realisation amid her continued trauma, but what is it? Meanwhile, the Kings are facing the fact that their marriage has become stale, but when Jimmy King (Nick Miles) tries to make Nicola (Nicola Wheeler) feel special, she ends up with suspicions that he’s been playing away – but has he?
