Hunter King is back on Hallmark Channel this weekend for her new original movie, A Make or Break Holiday, and we sat down with her to learn more about the film, her holiday plans, and real-life wedding plans with fiance Chris Copier.
The 32-year-old actress starred in last year’s top Hallmark movie of the year, Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story, and now she’s teaming up with Evan Roderick for her latest film.
In A Make or Break Holiday, a couple is hosting both families for their first Christmas together, but mounting stress and unresolved tensions lead them to quietly decide on a break. Determined not to ruin the holiday, they pretend to be a happy couple while navigating family chaos under one roof. In the process, they begin to rediscover what they love about each other and may not have to pretend much longer.

JUST JARED: Merry Christmas! Tell us more about Liv and what it was like getting into her mindset for this movie.
HUNTER KING: Thank you! Merry Christmas and happy holidays to you too! I absolutely adored this script and getting to play Liv. I think a lot of us have probably been in a situation similar to Liv’s. Where you’re in a relationship and it’s great at first, but then maybe things start to change? People get in their own way sometimes, and it really took both characters looking inward to see what they could be doing differently to help their relationship get to where they wanted it to be.
JJ: Liv is hosting Christmas this year. Have you hosted the holidays before? Is that something you enjoy or would you rather be a guest for the holidays?
HK: The year before last, my now fiancé and I hosted Christmas in LA with my family and it was so much fun! Since all of his family lives in Utah, we switch off where we spend Christmas every year. But we had such a fun time hosting and playing games that we’re actually going to host Christmas again this year! Although, I do love being a guest for the holidays too. My sister is the best at making a good holiday cocktail so her parties are always a blast. But I will say, whether I’m a host, or a guest, I always do the dishes. It’s one of my favorite things to do. Which as I say that, I hear how weird that sounds.
JJ: Liv and Daniel are keeping a major secret from their families. What’s the biggest secret you’ve ever kept that eventually was impossible to keep secret any longer?
HK: I’m trying really hard to think of a big secret I’ve kept, but I can’t think of one? I’m so close with my family that I feel like they know pretty much everything about me! Although my first tattoo that I got at 18 was definitely a secret that I kept from my Mom for as long as I could. I have since had that one removed. It was terrible. So, I kind of understand not wanting to show her for as long as I did.
JJ: This was your first time working with Evan Roderick? How was he as a scene partner and how did you guys develop your relationship, going from exes to rekindling that romance?
HK: Evan Roderick is the best! Truly. I feel like we became friends instantly. He’s such a kind and thoughtful person, and that really reflects in how he is as a scene partner. We had so much fun on this shoot, I can’t wait for people to see it!
JJ: You’ll be back in Kansas City for the second year of the Hallmark Christmas Experience. Tell us about that experience last year and what are you looking forward to this time?
HK: The Kansas City Hallmark Christmas Experience is truly such a magical few days. I had such a lovely time last year getting to meet Hallmark fans, hear their stories, and even get to share behind the scenes moments with them. It’s really such a bonding experience. I just remember thinking when I was there how incredibly grateful I am to be involved with a network whose viewers are such kind, empathetic, and truly joyful people. We feel their joy when we meet everyone and you walk away feeling like you just made 100 new best friends. I’m so excited to go again this year!
JJ: Is there a Hallmark actor you haven’t worked with yet who you are dying to do a movie with next?
HK: Oh, this is a tough one to answer because I have SO many that I’d love to work with! I’ve become friends with so many of them and I just adore them all that it’s too hard to pick just one! I mean I’d love the chance to work with Nikki DeLoach or Ashley Williams. I think they’re both such funny, and incredibly talented actors. But there’s so many more! I honestly want to name like 25 people! But I have to include my friend Wes Brown. My fiancé is friends with Wes and I just think he’s the greatest!
JJ: You got to appear as a guest judge on Finding Mr. Christmas this season. What was that experience like and did you enjoy working with the contestants?
HK: I was so excited when I got the call from Jonathan Bennett asking me to be a guest judge on their show Finding Mr. Christmas. I’ve never done anything like that before and I really had the best time. Everyone was so kind and welcoming that I wanted to ask Jonathan if I could just stay the rest of the season! Not to mention getting to spend the day with Melissa Peterman was and always will be a dream come true. No one makes me laugh more.
JJ: What are your plans for the holidays this year?
HK: This year we’ll be hosting Christmas and I’m so excited! And lucky for me, KC Hallmark Christmas Experience weekend 4 is right before Christmas, so I feel like I get double the Christmas this year!
JJ: Are there any holiday traditions that you’re always excited to do every year?
HK: Yes!! So since my fiancé’s family all lives in Utah, we wanted to bring some of their traditions to LA to make sure it still feels like home for Chris. His Dad Steve is really big into playing minute to win in games, so we decided to start that too! Let me tell you, they are SO much fun! When we hosted Christmas last time, I think we played 10 different games? We had prizes and everything. It’s honestly my favorite tradition now and I look forward to it all year long.
JJ: We saw that save-the-dates for your wedding have been sent out. What can you tease about your big day?
HK: The big day is coming up! We’re still finishing up some of the planning, but I’m just so excited to marry the love of my life. He is my biggest supporter and cheerleader, and I couldn’t ask for a better teammate to do life with. Icing on the cake is getting to say i do in Italy with our closest friends and family.
