‘Heated Rivalry’ Season 2 Update: Creator Jacob Tierney Confirms It Won’t Be ‘Same Time Next Year’ & HBO Exec Reveals They Won’t Chime In On the Creat

Jacob Tierney is giving an update on the time frame for Heated Rivalry season two!

The hit show’s creator, writer and director is gearing up for the season finale this week, which was only finalized a few days ago, and understands the desire for the already announced season two.

However, in a new interview, he notes that fans will have to wait a bit longer for next season – if you didn’t know, season one’s premiere was actually originally supposed to debut in early 2026 but got moved up several times.

“It can’t be same time next year, because this time last year I’d written five of these, and this time this year I’ve written zero of them,” Jacob tells Variety. “So it’s going to be a little bit later, but it’s still going to be soon.”

“We understand that everybody’s goal is to not do two years between seasons,” he added. “And at the same time, I don’t want to put out a rushed shitty second season just because the show is very popular. But we’re very aware that our creative partners are enthusiastic and don’t want to wait too long. We’re getting back to work!”

Previously, star Hudson Williams let slip, “Maybe someone has told me July or August, but I really don’t know.”

The head of HBO, Casey Bloys, also addressed the possible involvement of them joining on the creative side for season two, given the show’s success on HBO Max, something fans have been worried about. He confirms they will not be joining as a producer or co-financier, that they will stay out of it and are just happy to stream the show!

“We’re not going to be involved,” Casey told Variety. “I think the last thing the show needs is people meddling in what works. So, I don’t feel any need to weigh in. Clearly, they’ve got a good sense of the show and what works. I will be excited to receive my episodes, and highlight them on HBO Max.”

If you missed it, Jacob also recently spoke to the criticisms by I Love LA‘s Jordan Firstman, which was met by intense backlash from fans of the show and more.
